Wife, sister-in-law arrested for killing 42-year-old man

A 42-year-old woman and sister-in-law were for alleged murdering her husband near Chengalpattu on Monday. After killing him, they claimed that the man died after falling down the stairs in an inebriated state.

The arrested women were identified as Chandra (42) and Mariammal (40) from Alapakkam village near Chengalpattu. The deceased was identified as Sivakumar (47), working in the housekeeping department of a private firm. According to the police, Sivakumar was a drug addict and quarrelled with his wife Chandra often. After consuming alcohol, he also used to misbehave with his younger brother’s wife Mariammal.


On Saturday night, Sivakumar came home in an inebriated state and fell from the stairs at the house. Chandra and Mariammal, who noticed this, decided to kill him using the opportunity. First, they served him soft drink laced with poison and then smothered him to death using a towel. Later, they toldother family members that Sivakumar died afterfalling from the stairs and made arrangements forthe funeral.


However, Sivakumar’s mother Sanjana and his son Ajith, who suspected foul play in the death, filed a complaint with the Chengalpattu Taluk police.


The police went to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital on Sunday. On Monday after the autopsy results, the police confirmed that he was murdered and conducted inquired with Chandra. While she initially denied any wrongdoing, she confessed to the crime later. Both were arrested and lodged in the Puzhal prison.
