This art form is an exceptionally diverse cultural blend of African, South American, European and North American elements, reflecting the diverse demographic makeup of the island.

Cuban contemporary art is very rich in history and it includes a strikingly contemporary take on gender identity, race and sensuality. To make Chennaiites familiar with this art form, self-taught artist Trishna Patnaik will be holding a Cuban art workshop in the city.

“The idea behind the workshop is to appreciate the art form and create awareness about it. We will be looking at the Cuban landscape depiction and how Cuban women are been portrayed. From the above two theme choices, participants will get to make one thematic painting. We will also touch upon the Havana hues with this workshop and experience the Cuban culture pictorially with acrylic colours on cartridge sheets,” says Trishna, who has been practising art for over 14 years.
