The police said that Kaushik Roy (40), an employee of a leading software company, and his wife Suja Roy of Mandveli, adopted the child Kiesh Roy (4) three months ago from a government-run adoption centre in Kolkata.
During a routine visit, a team of Child Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) officials found bruises on the child’s left cheek, injuries on her hands and mark on the child’s left leg.
The officials rescued the child from the house and handed over to Don Bosco Anbu Illam for orphanage and rescued children in Chennai Central.
The CWC officials would produce the child before the medical officers at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital to undergo detailed medical examination and they would find the cause of injury on her body.
Based on their detailed medical report, the city police will inquire the couple. A woman police officer has been assigned to inquire the couple based on the preliminary complaint lodged by the CWC officer.
