History-sheeter Binu arrested as cops tighten vigil for LS polls
In view of the Lok Sabha polls, the city police have started arresting anti-social elements to ensure free and fair elections on April 18.

The police team apprehended gangster Binu Pappachan, who became ‘famous’ after celebrating his birthday party with fellow rowdies by cutting
a cake with a machete last year.
The police said they have list of more than 250 anti-social elements, who are under their watch. Binu of Choolaimedu was released on conditional bail in July. He had surrendered on February 13 last year after the police stormed his birthday bash organised at a lorry mechanic shed on February 7 and rounded up 75 people, including history-sheeters, in Malayambakkam near Porur.
He was arrested again on Tuesday while the police were conducting a vehicle check. “Binu was caught when he was travelling with two men named Manoj and Aravind in a car early on Tuesday on Gandhi- Erwin Bridge Road in Egmore.
He was granted conditional bail by a court last year but absconded after six days, the police noted. As he had jumped the bail, court had cancelled his it. Two others, who were travelling with him, were allowed to go.
No weapons seized from his vehicle. The city police have classified the anti-social elements which can create law and order issues and election violence in four categories – A+, A, B and C. The police have prepared a list of 256 rowdy elements across the city and are hunting for them.
