MIT honours Rear Admiral, bizman with alumni award

The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) Alumni Association, a 52-year-old association, has organised the Founder’s Day – Institute Day – Alumni Day (FIA).

Dr M K Surappa, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University was the Guest of Honour and addressed the gathering. Dr T Thyagarajan, Dean, MIT, Anna University presented the annual report of the institute.


The outstanding alumnus awardee, S Narayanan, Director, Bimetal Bearings, delivered the Shri Rajam Memorial Endowment Lecture. Rear Admiral V Mohan Doss, Indian Navy, received the distinguished alumnus award and addressed the gathering.


Felicitation address was given by Dr J Kumar, Registrar, Anna University and by V Balasubramaniam from the founder’s family. Prema Srinivasan from the founder’s family donated a cheque for an amount of Rs 6 lakh to MIT towards scholarships to students.


Foundation for Excellence (FFE), instituted by Dr Goel, USA, contributed around Rs 1.25 crore as scholarship for economically weaker and technically sound students of the MIT. This was coordinated by Usha Balaji of MIT alumni association.


MIT alumni association has contributed Rs 23 lakh for 115 students. Reading of citations of outstanding alumnus, distinguished alumnus and best outgoing student award were done by senior alumnus, T M Jawaharlal, R Balaji and R Madhavan respectively.


A note on industrial training for students was read out by R Venkatasamy. K Lakshmi Shankar, Secretary, MIT Alumni Association delivered the vote of thanks. The event started with an invocation.
