Metro commuters complain of lack of parking space
The commuters, who regularly use Nanganallur and Menambakkam Metro stations, face a lot of inconvenience due to the lack of parking space in those stations. As there are also no feeder services from these stations to improve the last mile connectivity, they have to depend on the autorickshaws and cabs that fleece the commuters at any given opportunity.

“Recently, I took the Metro to reach home as my work hours got extended. The autorickshaw drivers demanded around Rs 150 to drop me at my house, which was just three kilometres away. They never take a trip below Rs 100,” recollects a woman commuter who works at a privatefirm on Anna Salai.
The neighbouring Metro stations like St Thomas Mount and Alandur have huge parking facilities, said the project director Rama Rao of Trafficand Transportation Forum.
“It is impossible to park the vehicles on the sidewalks and undertake a journey. This is the main reason for the poor patronage in these stations. Although Metro takes up various measures to increase the patronage, there are glitches which need to be addressed with the utmost priority,” he added.
According to the official data, the average passenger flow for Nanganallur Road and Meenambakkam Metro stations is 800 and 1,900 per month respectively. Both the facilities have the capacity to occupy around 60 vehicles at a time, said a senior official of CMRL.
A senior official said, “This situation will be addressed soon as CMRL rolls out feeder services in another 32 stations. We are planning to introduce four cars in the beginning which will be raised based on the patronage.” Currently, the CMRL operates feeder share autos and taxis at selected stations for Rs 10 and Rs 15.
