Man kills wife over dowry, stages suicide drama

The murder that happened on Tuesday night was revealed as a murder only in the autopsy report, putting an end to the suicide claim made by the man. Police said that Mariappan (30), married Vigneshwari (25), six months ago and the couple were staying in a rented flat in Madambakkam. On Tuesday, Mariappan allegedly beat his wife and nagged her to bring more dowry. Upset by this, Vigneshwari had threatened to end her life and while she was attempting suicide, the man overpowered and apparently strangulated her to death. Later, he had hung the body from the ceiling and left for night duty. On Wednesday morning, he had pretended that she had committed suicide. Selaiyur police sent the body for post-mortem and the report revealed that it was a case of murder and she was strangled to death. Police arrested Mariappan for murdering his wife.
