6 detained for smuggling gold into Chennai
The Customs officers seized gold worth Rs 27 lakh and foreign currencies worth Rs 19 lakh from six passengers in separate incidents. While they were checking passengers, who arrived from Colombo on Monday, they intercepted Mohamed Hassali (27) and Subaiyar Ali (32) at the arrival hall.

While they were checked in separate rooms, both of them were found carrying gold in their rectum. The gold weighing about 590 grams worth Rs 19.3 lakh was seized from them. In the second incident, the Customs officers intercepted Rahamathullah (42) of Chennai, who arrived from Dubai. They found him concealing gold inside his clothes. The gold was weighing about 227 grams worth Rs 7.42 lakh was seized from him. In yet another incident, they intercepted three who were at airport to board a flight on Saturday night. The officers found all of them hiding foreign currencies in their baggage. All six passengers were detained for enquiry.
