Three held for double murder in Tiruvallur

Nearly a week after a 40-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son was found murdered, Tiruttani police on Friday arrested three persons involved in the case for gain.

Veeralakhshmi and her son Pothiraj were found murdered on Sunday last at their house in Tiruttani- Arakkonam Highway and 21 sovereigns of gold jewels kept in the house were stolen.


Following this, a special police team led by DSP Shekar was formed to nab those involved. The investigators arrested Suresh (30), Umapathi (31) and Venkat alias Kannathasan (27) on Friday, and recovered 15 sovereigns of the stolen jewels and Rs 5,000 cash.


Police said that the three persons were first-time offenders. Venkat had visited the house ahead of the murder in the guise of looking for Veeralakshmi’s husband Vana Perumal. The trio have reportedly confessed to the murder and loot. Tiruttani police booked them for murder and robbery, and remanded them in judicial custody.
