Turnout: RK Nagar tops with 70.81 per cent, Mylapore falls at 54.78 per cent
Among the 18 Assembly segments in the three Chennai Lok Sabha constituencies, RK Nagar Assembly segment, which falls under North Chennai Parliamentary constituency, had recorded highest voters’ turnout of 70.81 per cent.

According to Chennai Corporation data, North Chennai constituency has recorded 63.48 per cent. The constituency constitutes of Tiruvottiyur, RK Nagar, Perambur, Kolathur, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, and Royapuram.
During the 2017 Assembly by-election, RK Nagar had registered a turnout of 77.68 per cent.
Mylapore and Sholinganallur Assembly segments, both fall under South Chennai constituency, recorded least polling at 54.78 and 55.17 per cent respectively.
Similar to the overall state turnout that had decreased by nearly 2 per cent when compared to votes polled in 2014, the combined turnout of Chennai constituencies also decreased by 2 per cent.
Central Chennai and North Chennai constituencies recorded 58.66 and 63.48 per cent respectively. South Chennai constituency witnessed 56.34 per cent turnout.
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Central Chennai and North Chennai constituencies had witnessed a turnout of 61.36 and 63.99 per cent. South Chennai constituency recorded 60.21 per cent turnout.
In another interesting finding, none of the six Assembly segments, namely Virugambakkam, Saidapet, T Nagar, Mylapore, Velachery and Sholinganallur, which comes under South Chennai constituency had crossed 60 per cent turnout mark.
When asked about the poor turnout Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said that the civic body had conducted intensive awareness activities to sensitise the voters. “The long weekend might have impacted polling,” he added.
Report sought on alleged irregularities at Dharmapuri, Kanniyakumari
Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Thursday said that a special report has been sought from the District Electoral Officer (DEO) regarding the allegations of irregularities at a polling booth in Dharmapuri constituency. Similarly, a report has also been sought on complaints of mass deletion of voters’ names from the electoral rolls in Kanniyakumari district. To a question on the possibility of re-polling in both the pockets, the CEO said, “It will always be taken into consideration based on the general observer’s remarks.”
