The complainants, Kumar and Jayakumar of Tiruvanmiyur, wanted to sell their ancestral property measuring 1,092 sq ft, worth Rs 1.05 crore.
After coming to know about it, professor Prabhu Kumar approached them expressing interest. Prabhu Kumar convinced the brothers that he would buy their land by pledging the property, as he did not have that much cash. He added that he would buy the land in his wife’s name, who runs an engineering consultant firm in the city.
Prabhu Kumar then devised a plan to cheat the brothers by entering into a venture with Rajesh Kumar Lodha (42) and Ramesh Kumar Lodha (52), financiers based in Royapettah.
The professor registered a power of attorney in the name of the financiers on receipt ofRs 17 lakh without the knowledge of the victims.
However, the brothers came to know a few months later that the trio sold the house to another person for Rs 1.05 crore.
Based on Kumar’s complaint, CCB registered a case and arrested and remanded them.
