“As far we know, he has no case in Chennai. We have also verified his background. Though he has a case in Naxalbari police station in West Bengal linked to a social media post supporting a separatist group, he is out on bail. He came to Chennai and began working here only after getting released properly on bail. He has no terror link,” a senior police officer said.
Referring to a social media post showing him with a gun, a senior police officer said it was a toy gun that he was posing with.
“He was attached to a security firm in Chennai and was posted at a hospital in Aminjikarai. He was not paid his salary. When he questioned the delay in getting the due salary, it became an issue. A retired police official working in the hospital pulled out his background and found he was arrested in a case related to social media post in Naxalbari station,” the officer said.
“After a team from the Anna Nagar police station questioned him, officials of the special investigation division and Q branch too interrogated him. We don’t think he has committed a crime here. So he was allowed to go after getting a statement from him,” a senior official said.
