Imposter 'cops' rob city jewellery shop employee
An employee of a Chennai jewellery shop was robbed of jewellery worth Rs 11 crore and cash of Rs 7 lakh by unidentified men imposing as idol wing police men.

The idol wing police has been conducting raid throughout Tamil Nadu to recover the smuggled idols. In one such raid in the house of industrialist Ranveersha, the police confiscated sacks of idols, sources said. Meanwhile a simultaneous 'raid' was conducted in Jeweller Kiran Rao, who happens to be a friend of Ranveersha.
Kiran Rao owns a jewellery shop, Amtheyst in Anna Salai, Chennai that sells designer jewellry.
On the day of the incident, the store manager Dhayanidhi and some employees were returning from Madurai after participating in a jewellery exhibition held in Madurai on 26, 27th April.
Sources said that they were carrying jewellry worth Rs 11 crore and cash worth Rs 7.5 lakh with them when they were intercepted by another car, near Chengalpattu toll plaza. A gang of 7 unidentified men, who imposed themselves as Idol wing officers, confiscated the jewelry and cash.
A case was lodged in Chengalpattu police station and SP Santhosh Himadhani has ordered an enquiry, forming a seperate team headed by DSP Kandhan.
