A meeting in this regard was held between the senior police officers led by R Sudhakar, Joint Commissioner (Traffic, South) and owners of tanker lorries at the Commissioner’s office on Wednesday. In order to meet the increased demand for water during the summer and to provide unrestricted water supply, the time restrictions imposed on the water tankers of both Metrowater and the private vehicles were removed, the police said in a statement.

Till a few days ago, the tankers that ply on a contract basis to the Metrowater and private tanker lorries had a time curb and were not supposed ply from 8 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm in order to avoid accidents and traffic jams.

The tanker lorry owners have been instructed to follow the traffic rules and drive the vehicles in a safe manner without causing hindrance to the public. If the vehicles are found to violate the traffic rules, necessary action will be taken against the owners and the drivers, the police said.
