A few weeks ago, I had to return to my house in Porur after dining out one night and booked a cab through an online aggregator app for the same. The driver dropped me home and soon left. But what I hadn’t realized until much later was that my phone had fallen from my pocket and was left behind in the car. Using a friend’s mobile, I tried contacting my number hoping the driver would answer it, but unfortunately, the phone was on a silent mode. After a lot of tries, I was convinced that I lost the expensive phone.

As a last resort, I left a message on my phone requesting anyone who finds it to call my friend’s number. To my surprise, the cab driver himself called me back the next morning, saying he found the phone in his car’s backseat. Despite my place being far from where he was, he said he would drop my phone off close to my place. In a materialistic world like ours, it was heartening to see an honest person like him who had forgone two hours of his riding time in order to return my phone.

While I insisted that he accepts some money as a token of gratitude in return for his kindness, the driver refused taking it. Only upon my persistence did he accept it. I was very touched by his honesty and the effort he took to return something, which one could have easily sold off to make money.
