MAC stands can open for spectators only after rectifying violations: Corpn
Throughout the IPL league stage, the Chennai Super Kings was constrained by these empty stands in MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, which according to the apex body in cricket (CoA of BCCI) was an eyesore and thus bad publicity for such a glamorous event. But sources said the clearance would come only after the violations were rectified.

The main reason for the closure of the stands is the failure in availing planning permission before construction. According to a Corporation official, the TNCA and MCC failed to avail building approval from the civic body and planning permission from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
“Building approval is mandatory and we will check the safety and other aspects before providing building approvals,” the official said.
CMDA had rejected the application, which was sent after the construction completed, and directed them to rectify the deviations. “Now, TNCA and MCC should demolish the deviating portions and apply again,” the official added. One of themajor violations is the lack of setback area and the failure to demolish a gymnasium to rectify the violation.
Meanwhile, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India had pointed out that the lease agreement for the stadium between TNCA and the government ended in 2015, and pointed out non-collection of lease rent of more than Rs. 2,000 crores for 2000-2016.
