According to the dozens residents who came on to the streets, the person had encroached the MGR Road in their neighbourhood by availing patta. This was done in connivance with the officials, they charged.
Pointing out that the case was being heard for more than 25 years, S Rajendiran, a local resident said the concerned person has now managed to obtain an ex parte order from the court. “But we have time to appeal and the road should not be fenced until we appeal,” Rajendiran said, a demand seconded by scores of other residents who was part of the protest.
Explaining the importance of the road for the local residents, Rajendiran said that there were nearly 300 families in the locality and major drainage line, electric line and water lines were passing through MGR Road.
“The road also has schools and a market. If the road is blocked, it will affect the movement of local public considerably.”
