22-year-old patient dies after complaining of chest pain at city airport

A 22-year-old youth died after complaining of sudden chest pain at the Chennai airport on Tuesday while returning to Patna. The police said that the youth and his father had come for treatment at CMC Vellore.

The deceased was identified as R Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Patna, who was suffering from gastrointestinal problem. Neary three weeks ago Rajiv and his father Rameshvarar (52) went to the Vellore CMC for treatment. After the treatment, they came to Chennai on Monday and had a flight to Patna on Tuesday.


Around 1.30 pm, when they were in the waiting room, Rajiv Kumar fell unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital inside the airport where the doctor declared him brought dead. The airport police arrived at the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem examination at Chromepet Government Hospital.


Gold worth Rs 12.7 lakh seized


Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 12.7 lakh from two passengers at Chennai airport. Early on Tuesday, the customs intercepted Vasanth Jay Raj (25) from Madurai when he arrived from Sharjah. When they checked his bags on suspicion, they found one circular gold ingot concealed inside a Bluetooth speaker, one gold strip concealed inside a hairdryer, two gold strips concealed in a hair straightener and six gold links concealed in three wrist watches. The gold weighed about 232 gm and was worth Rs 7.7 lakh.


In the second incident, the officials were checking passengers who arrived from Colombo on Monday. On suspicion, the officials intercepted Fathima Bathul (43) from Colombo. During a physical check, the officials found her hiding four gold pieces inside her rectum. It weighed about 154 gm and was worth Rs 5 lakh. The gold was seized from both the passengers
