Distressed over health, man ends life at MGR Nagar
A retired government official, who was reportedly distressed about his health condition, committed suicide at MGR Nagar in the wee hours of Monday. Police said that Bhagayanathan (65), who retired from Chennai Port Trust, was living with his wife Pandiammal at Choolaipallam Anna Street, MGR Nagar.

The couple’s two children are married and live in the neighbourhood. Police said that though he was diabetic, he could not stay away from alcohol. Recently, doctors told him that one of toes would have to be amputated due to his health condition, which apparently pushed him into depression. Around 7 am on Monday, he was found hanging in one of the rooms in his house. MGR Nagar police registered a case and further inquiry is on.
