Plumber snatches chain for marriage expenses, held

A 32-year-old man was nabbed by public when he allegedly tried to snatch a woman’s chain near Chromepet on Wednesday night.

He indulged in the crime hoping to arrange money for his marriage. The accused was identified as Alex Pandian from Pallavaram, a plumber. When the victim Thirumagal (42) of Tiruvottiyur, a private firm employee, was walking towards Chromepet railway station after work around 6.30 pm, a man snatched her chain and started running. After Thirumagal shouted for help, two-wheeler riders chased and nabbed him. He was then handed over to the Chitlapakkam police. After interrogating him, the police said that he belonged to a poor family. His family was looking for a girl to get him married and he decided to snatch the chain to get money for the marriage expenses. This is the first time he was arrested, added the police.
