Fans organise viewing parties to catch last episode of Game of Thrones

Hosts have been planning these parties for weeks now, to perfect all the smallest of details. Mouneesha Chowdary, who hosted a viewing party for the previous episode as well, is planning to do the same for the final episode. “I sent out Game of Thrones-inspired invitations and flyers to all my friends; I have a quite a big circle in the city,” says Mouneesha. 

For the previous party, she had dressed up as Missandei of Naath, but remains mum about what she is planning for the upcoming event. But, she went one step further in terms of décor. “I placed dragon eggs, candles, banners and sigils all around my house. Before the guests entered my home, they were given a sword, a dragon egg with a dragon they could assemble, and a crown,” she says.

Kumar V, a 24-year-old student at a college in Vandalur, says some friends and he are planning to get together in one of the hostel rooms and catch the last episode. He says, “I can’t believe GoT is about to end. Every Monday morning for the past five weeks, I woke up at 6 am to catch the new episode and would attend classes only after watching it. A bunch of my friends and I are planning to do the same for the finale.”

A city pub hosted a GoT-theme party for the premiere of Season Eight. Many of the attendees came dressed as characters of the show such as Lady Olenna of Highgarden, the Night King, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister. “Some of us are planning to get together at a friend’s place in Royapettah for the screening of the last episode as well. It is going to be a bittersweet ending,” says Shwetha Krishnan, one of the attendees.
