Public nab Iranian chain snatcher at KK Nagar
Passers-by chased and caught a chain snatcher when he tried to flee after relieving a woman of her gold chain in KK Nagar on Monday. Investigation revealed that the accused Kalandhar Hussein (29) of Madhya Pradesh is of Iranian origin and reached the city only last week.

The victim, Poongodi (38) of Rani Anna Nagar, KK Nagar, who works for a company in T Nagar, was riding a scooter on Kamarajar Salai when two men on a bike snatched her gold chain and fled. Seeing this, the other motorists on the road raised an alarm. A passer-by chased the vehicle and stopped the duo. Kalandhar Hussein was caught while the other culprit managed to escape. The gold chain was retrieved from him.
Police said Hussein was an autorickshaw driver in Madhya Pradesh and came to Chennai in search of work. “He stayed at his friend’s place. Around 8.50 am on Sunday, tempted after seeing a lot of women wearing gold, the duo planned the crime,” said police. Though the accused reportedly told police that this was their maiden attempt, police are checking his antecedents and whether he was part of a larger gang.
He will be remanded on Tuesday, while a hunt has been launched for his accomplice.
Meanwhile, Anna Square police have arrested a duo and recovered a mobile phone they had robbed. The accused, M Sikandar (19) of Pudupet and A Vinoth (19) of Thousand Lights, had snatched the mobile phone from a pedestrian, R Prasanth (26) on May 4. The duo was remanded.
