Head constable among nine held for gambling at lodge

Nine persons, including a head constable, were arrested by the Chennai city police allegedly for gambling at a lodge in the city.

The police said, based on a specific information from a person, the Royapettah police raided a lodge at Balaji Nagar in Royapettah and found the policeman gambling. There were nine men, including the owner of the lodge, gambling with cash. The officers also seized Rs 1.84 lakh. Ezhumalai, who was a member of the gambling group, was a head constable, the police said.


Other arrested men were identified as Ravichandran (52), Sivashankar (54), Chandra Sekar (43), Asmath (42), Premkumar (45), Ravi (55), Janakiraman (68) and Rahman (42). The Royapettah police registered a case under section 45 and 46 of the Madras City Police Act and released all of them on station bail.
