Passers-by nab man who robbed Tasmac staff at knifepoint

A man who attacked a Tasmac bar staff and took away his money at knife point was chased and overpowered by the passers-by in Koyambedu.

According to the police, the victim is a 28-year-old Balamurugan from Pudukottai district who works at a bar in Koyambedu. On Sunday night, he was walking home after finishing work via New Colony junction in Koyambedu when a man stopped him at knife point and demanded all the money in Balamurugan’s possession.

When the 28-year-old refused to comply, the man snatched Rs 700 from his pocket and started running away. Balamurugan then started to chase the man as he shouted for help. Hearing his cries, passers-by managed to overpower the fleeing man and beat him up.

He was later handed over to the police. The accused has been identified as Prabakaran, a 26-year-old resident of Kolathur. The police also seized a knife from him and remanded him in judicial custody.
