Following this, notices instructing the schools to get recognition immediately or stall admissions for the coming academic year have been issued to the schools.

Authorities advised the public to not seek admission in these listed schools and added that the certificates issued by these institutions are not valid.

“The students of these unrecognised institutions will not be allowed to appear for any government board exams,” a communique from the Collector office said.

The Collectorate also warned that strict action will be taken against the management of the schools which continue to function without recognition certificate.

A senior official from the Education Department said that more than 700 unrecognised schools were functioning across the state. He also said that notices with the list of unrecognised schools in the area would also be displayed at key places.

The official said that the Transport Department would also withdraw fitness certificates issued to vehicles belonging to such schools.

He pointed out that the schools are functioning without the required permission from Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP), Local Planning Authority (LPA) or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), ensuring that there won’t be any unrecognised schools in the State by the beginning of the next academic year.

“The list of unrecognised schools are published in the Education Department. The public should check with this before they begin the admission process to their children,” he added.

He said that a separate team comprising senior officials and District Education Officer has been formed to continuously monitor such schools.
