Tangedco employee held for woman’s murder in Tiruvallur

A 34-year-man, staffer with the State power utility, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly murdering a woman in Kattur in Tiruvallur district. Police said the woman, employed as a noon meal worker, was involved in a relationship with him.

According to the police, Sivagami (35) was married to one Ramesh (40) in Elavur village. The couple had a son. But following frequent quarrels, she separated from him. After securing a job as a noon-meal assistant at the primary school in Kattur village, she rented a house in the neighbourhood where she was residing.


On May 26, after being alerted about foul smell emanating from the house, police rushed to the spot to find that Sivagami dead. Investigations led to the arrest of one Ganapathy (34), who was employed with Tangedco. The accused had a relationship with her.


Ganapathy told the police that he was unmarried and had decided to marry Sivagami, with whom he had an affair. But that was when he found out that she allegedly had illicit relationships with few others. A quarrel broke out between them and on May 23, at the height of which he attacked her with a knife and returned to his house without realising that he had killed her.


He also told the police that he realised she had died only after investigations commenced. Kattur police arrested the man and remanded him to judicial custody.
