While the gold was stolen from three houses, the burglars left empty-handed from two other houses. They did not loot any other valuables, said the police.

Vishvas (40) of Perumbakkam near Pallikaranai works as a manager at a private hotel in the city. While his family members had gone to Delhi for vacation, Vishvas locked his house and left for work on Sunday. When he returned at night, the front grille gate was broken open and 80 sovereign jewels from the locker were missing.

In the second incident, Thangaraj (30) from Vellai Kal Nagar in Kovilambakkam is a private firm employee. Thangaraj, who went to his native on Saturday night, returned on Monday morning. He found that burglars had gained entry into the house and looted four sovereign jewels. Meanwhile, intruders also broke into the house of Srinivasan (40) of Perumbakkam, who had gone to his native a few days ago. When they returned home on Monday, the door was open and 18 sovereigns of jewels were missing from the house.

While the robbers also broke into two other houses in Pallikaranai police limit, they did not steal anything as there was no gold in the houses, said the police. “The burglarswere targeting only the gold,” said the police. The Pallikaranai police have registered cases and trying to identify the robbers with the help of CCTV footages.
