Four dead, two injured in separate accidents across city

A 23-year-old software engineer died and his colleague was hurt after their bike rammed a barricade, allegedly placed haphazardly, in Semmanchery. Avinsash of Bengaluru and Sridhar of Dharapuram were returning home after work when the incident happened.

While Guindy traffic police maintained that their bike skidded, residents claimed that the techies lost balance after hitting a barricade which the police had kept in a haphazard manner. The accident happened around 11 pm on Perumal Koil Street inSemmanchery.


On information, police rushed to the spot and sent Sridhar to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Avinash’s body was also sent there for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and further inquiry is on.


In another incident, the Kancheepuram district correspondent of a private news channel died after a lorry rammed into his two-wheeler near Tambaram, on Saturday. S Senthil Kumar from Perungudi was returning after covering an event when the accident occurred on the Naduverapattu-Tambaram road near Ettaiyapuram.


Police said Senthil tried to avoid hitting a boy when a concrete mixing lorry coming in the opposite direction hit him. He was rushed to Chromepet government hospital, where he died at 3.30 pm. The lorry driver managed to escape from the spot, Shomangalam police said, adding that they are searching for him. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami expressed his condolence.


Meanwhile, two died and another suffered grievous injuries after a lorry rammed their two-wheeler while they were riding triples, early on Saturday. They were drunk after celebrating the birthday of one of the youth, police said.


The deceased were identified as Vijay (17) of Tiruverkadu and M Surendar (22). G Bharath (22), also from Tiruverkadu, is in a critical condition.
