Harassed by neighbour, girl attempts suicide

After her family members thwarted her bid and rescued her, a case has been registered against the accused, Velmurugan, based on her complaint at the Tirumangalam All-Women Police Station. Velmurugan, a car driver, allegedly harassed the 18-year-old girl to marry him frequently on her way to college or back home. A complaint had been already lodged at the Koyambedu police station in this regard.

On Friday evening, Velmurugan allegedly intercepted her and asked her to get into his car. The girl escaped from him, reached home and allegedly tried to hang self, said the police.

A 20-year-old committed suicide in Aminjikarai allegedly over a one-sided love affair. The deceased, R Ezhumalai of MM Colony in Aminjikarai, was working at an automobile showroom, said the police. On Friday evening, Ezhumalai allegedly spoke to his friends over phone and told them that he no longer desires to live as his love proposal was rejected by a girl, who he liked for over a year. Then, he hanged himself at a room in the house. On information, the Aminjikarai police recovered his body and sent it to the for post-mortem examination to Kikpauk Medical College Hospital. Further investigation is on.
