Two held for snatching mobile phone from retired inspector

The Otteri police have arrested two persons for snatching a mobile phone from a retired inspector of central paramilitary force.

The victim, Thangarasu (65) of Kamarajar Nagar in Avadi, works as a security guard at an under-construction site in Pulianthope. On Monday morning, he reached Perambur railway station and was walking to the nearby bus stop when two men snatched his phone and fled the spot.


Based on his complaint, the Otteri police registered a case and arrested Karthikeyan (31) and Ramu (36) of Old Washermanpet. Both were remanded in judicial custody. The stolen mobile phone was seized from them and handed over to the victim.


Chain snatcher nabbed a week after the incident

A week after a 65-year-old woman was snatched off her 6.5-sovereign chain at the Central Metro railway station, the Periamet police have arrested the suspect identified as Muniyan and seized the stolen jewel.


The victim, Chandra (65), and her husband Chandrasekar (69), who are living in the US, had come to attend a family function.


On the night of June 3, when they were waiting to board the train to Vadapalani, a man who followed them for a while and even tried to speak to them suddenly snatched her chain and fled the spot.


The couple lodged a complaint at the Periamet police station. Based on the CCTV footage, Muniyan was arrested. The police said that he has several robbery cases pending against him.
