Road caves in again at Madhya Kailash junction
Just two weeks after the road near Madhya Kailash temple junction caved in, a huge portion of the junction where Sardar Patel Road meets Rajiv Gandhi Salai in front of the temple caved in on Thursday, resulting in a traffic jam. This is the fourth time the stretch caved in the past four years.

The incident happened around 2.30 am, said CMWSSB officials who suspect that a leakage in the underground pipeline might have caused the cave-in. Office goers using the Sardar Patel Road and Gandhi Mandapam Road had a tough time on Thursday, as vehicles piled up on the entire road, leading to a commotion. The area has been barricaded, leaving very little space for vehicles to cross the spot.
“This stretch is even otherwise chaotic. Peak traffic hours and the cave-in made it worse,” said a techie who works in an MNC on OMR. The traffic police said that they sent out an alert on social media about the cave-in but it did not help much as they had to struggle to control the vehicle movement.
When contacted, the Greater Chennai Corporation officials said that they would be able to arrive at a conclusion on the cause of the cave-in only after enough enquiry. They added that it would take at least a week to fix the road.
In November 2015, the road caved in at the same spot after heavy rain lashed the city. In 2016, a small hole at the same spot created tension among motorists on the stretch.
