Before facelift, Corpn to review facilities in schools
The schools run by the Greater Chennai Corporation are set to get an uplift, as the civic body has directed its officials to prepare a list of facilities to be provided to the schools.

During a meeting in Ripon Buildings held on Saturday, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash directed officials to inspect all the schools run by the civic body. “The Commissioner directed us to prepare the list, which will be submitted to the State government seeking funds,” said an official who took part in the meeting.
At the meeting, Prakash also instructed to maintain uniformity of the schools by building entry arches in identical shape and paint schools in the same colour.
Presently, the civic body maintains as many as 281 schools including 32 higher secondary schools. Of the total schools, 28 have smart classrooms.
“We are also planning to upgrade 15 Corporation schools as smart schools at a cost of Rs 96 Crore by providing additional facilities,” the official added.
Apart from directing the officials to inspect schools, Prakash also directed the them to follow norms while providing road cut permissions.
Road cuts are made by service departments such as Metro water, electricity board and others to provide connections to houses.
“Severe action should be taken against the persons cutting roads without accounting for public convenience,” he said at the meeting.
