Ambulance staff safeguard Rs 69L found at accident spot
In a commendable act, crew of an ambulance who chanced upon Rs 69 lakh at an accident site handed it over to the police in Kancheepuram on Saturday night. The men, who were part of the 108 ambulance service, found the bundles of cash from a car that had turned turtle after meeting with an accident.

The accident happened on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway near Chinnayan Chatram near Kancheepuram when a group was returning from Dharmapuri with money collected from business deals. One of them, identified as Murali (35), an employee of a business firm in Madhavaram, was killed in the accident.
According to the police, Sriram Chettiyar, who owns a wholesale firm that sells steel rods and iron materials used for construction, had sent Murali and his brother Balaji (34) to collect dues from businessmen in Vellore. Saravanan (32) was driving the car.
On Saturday evening, as theywere returning with the cash, the car turned turtle on Bengaluru – Chennai highway. Murali was killed on the spot. “The car had run over the median and turned over. After seeing the accident local people alerted 108 ambulance service,” police said.
The ambulance vehicle stationed in Rajakulam received a distress call 6.19 pm. When the crew reached the accident spot, all the three were found lying outside the car. Balaji and Saravanan were conscious and they handed over the bags containing cash to the ambulance crew.
The ambulance crew – paramedical staff D Vijayan and driver V Santhanam – who reached the spot found during their preliminary inspection thatMurali had died on the spot. They rushed the other two to Kancheepuram government hospital.
The initial report about the accident was filled with rumours that another vehicle hit the car carrying victims to commit a robbery after people saw the bags with cash bundles at the accident site. Police, however, denied that any other vehicle was involved in the mishap and added that there was no robbery.
