The police said that the house belonged to Kothandaraman (51), an SSI, attached to Sembium traffic enforcement police. He locked his house on the first floor of A block and went to Tiruchendur with his family on June 13. The incident of burglary came to light only on Sunday morning when the family returned to the city.
The intruders found the cupboard’s key that was kept on top of it and looted the valuables inside, said the police. Based on a complaint from the SSI, the Madhavaram police rushed to the scene with forensic experts. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of people living inside the police quarters being involved in the crime.
“It is difficult for outsiders to get inside the police quarters and walk away with valuables after breaking open a house,” the police said. They have collected CCTV footage and trying to identify the suspects. This is the second theft being reported in a police quarters in the last one week. On Thursday, a woman constable’s house located inside Kondithope police quarters was burgled.
