“More than 150 disabled employees were being treated in an inhuman and discriminatory way which is against the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and the labour welfare acts,” TARATDAC General Secretary S Namburajan said. He said 20 employees, who became disabled after meeting with accidents during the service, gave petitions highlighting the harassment faced by them in the hands of the MTC officials. “Transport secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan heard our grievances and promised to resolve the issues,” he said. The association alleged that the disabled employees were being asked to quit or take voluntary retirement through oral orders. “Some of the disabled workers were being threatened by the officials and denied light works,” it said.

“Even after getting the government certificate for permanent disability, the workers were forced to undergo a medical examination once in six months,” it said, urging the secretary to conduct a special grievance meeting.
