Encroachments near railway stations removed in city
The Chennai Corporation officials evicted shops encroaching roads near Nungambakkam railway station on Tuesday.

During the eviction drive, street vendors on Railway Border Road, Saurashtra Nagar First Street near the railway station and Choolaimedu High Road were removed.
“We have received complaints from the public that the street vendors are blocking the roads. We had informed the vendors about the drive and asked them to clear encroachments,” the official said. According to the official, more than 50 shops were removed. Apart from removing the shops, the civic body also raided several shops on Choolaimedu High Road to seize banned plastic items. Meanwhile, railway and Revenue Department officials removed around 200 shops that were encroaching railway land opposite Velachery MRTS station. Similarly, on June 13, the civic officials removed protracted portions of shops encroaching pedestrian pavement on Puliyur Main Road.
