Thus, after detaining both groups on Thursday morning, the police team from the neighbouring district remanded five kidnappers while handing over the six transwomen who were victims to Chennai police to proceed with the murder case.
A group of six transpersons from Thirunangai Nagar near Uruvi Malai in Kancheepuram filed a complaint at the Kancheepuram DSP office that Mahalakshmi from Kundrathur, who allegedly treated them as bonded labours, was demanding Rs 5 lakh from each of them. Her gang was trying to abduct them, they added in the complaint, and added a group sent by Mahalakshmi was coming to their house regularly and attacking them. Following the complaint, police placed CCTV cameras around Thirunangai Nagar. On Wednesday night, eight transpersons led by Mahalakshmi came to Thirunangai Nagar, and attacked and kidnapped the group of six.
Receiving information about the matter, Kancheepuram SP Santosh Hadimani formed a special team, which tracked and arrested five of them in Kundrathur and rescued the six transpersons on Thursday morning. SP Santosh Hadimani said that these six victims had murdered another transperson named Sowmya on June 6 by drowning her in a quarry pond in Sikkarayapuram. They then staged a drama that it was an accidental death. However, the post mortem examination revealed that it was a murder. Following that, Mahalakshmi was threatening them, the officer added.
Police arrested the five kidnappers, including Mahalakshmi, and remanded them in judicial custody. Search is on for the other three who are allegedly involved in the kidnap.
