Computer science, mechanical top choice of engineering aspirants

Counselling for students seeking admission to engineering seats in the State began on Tuesday in which more than 100 differently abled students were allocated seats in colleges of their choice.

A senior official from Tamil Nadu Department of Technical Education (DoTE) told DT Next that most of the students preferred computer science and mechanical engineering on day one.


After publishing the merit list for the students, DoTE, which is conducting counselling for the engineering aspirants this academic year, had called differently abled persons for counselling procedure.


According to an official, more than 143 differently abled students were called for counselling at Central Polytechnic College auditorium at Taramani in the city. “About 80 students came for the morning counselling session and rest of the candidates were allocated time slot in the afternoon. A total of 101 students were allocated seats. Ten students didn’t opt for any of the colleges,” he said, adding the number of absentees was 32.


On Wednesday, the counselling will be held for the students in the ex-servicemen category.


“On the same day, counselling for students seeking admissions to vocational courses will begin,” he said. It will go on till June 28 and 1,450 candidates are expected to participate.


Similarly, a total of 1,650 applicants belonging to eminent sportspersons category will attend the counselling on June 27. The official said the counselling for general category will begin on July 3 and will be held in multiple rounds till July 28.
