DoTE to hold engineering counselling from today
After the release of merit list, the counselling for the students seeking admission to engineering seats in the State is all set to begin today in which students from reservation category would be called first.

The Tamil Nadu Department of Technical Education (DoTE), which is conducting the counselling this year after Anna University refused, has made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the counselling process takes place as per schedule.
On Tuesday, the counselling will be conducted for differently abled candidates at Central Polytechnic College auditorium at Taramani in the city. A senior official from DOTE told DT Next that the session will start at 9.30 am and go on till 4.30 pm with as many as 138 candidates scheduled to participate on the first day.
On Wednesday, the counselling will be held for the students in the ex-servicemen category, wherein a total of 950 candidates are expected to participate.
“On the same day, counselling for students seeking admissions to vocational courses will begin,” he said. It will go on till June 28 and 1,450 candidates are expected to participate, the official added.
Similarly, a total of 1,650 applicants belonging to eminent sportspersons category will attend the counselling on June 27. The official said the counselling for general category students will begin on July 3, after a gap of five days.
According to him, the general category counselling will be held in multiple rounds till July 28. “Students will be called according to their cut-off marks which was released on June 20,” he added.
Of the total 1.33 lakh online applications, the rank list was prepared for 1.06 lakh students, who were called for counselling. “However, about 70,000 students are expected to participate in the counselling process this academic session,” he added.
In 2018, about 75,000 candidates participated in the counselling, which was conducted by Anna University. After counselling process, provisional admission list will be released.
This year a total of 1.47 lakh engineering seats are available in about 500 engineering colleges in State.
Free seminar to be conducted on Jun 28
The Consortium of Self-Financing Professional, Arts and Science Colleges in the State will conduct Tholainokku 2019, a free seminar on Directorate of Technical Education’s (DoTE) online counselling for the engineering aspirants, in Chennai on June 28.
State Higher Education Minister KP Anbazhagan will inaugurate the seminar, a release here on Monday said.
“The seminar will not only create awareness on online counselling and admission process for 2019, but also will provide the students and their parents insights into various career options that engineering as a profession offers,” it said.
The seminar will clear the doubts regarding the counselling process and assist the students in choosing the preferred colleges and engineering courses that matches their aptitude and rankings.
Minister Anabazhagan, K Vivekanandan, Director, Directorate of Technical Education, Sujith Kumar, Location Head-HR, Infosys Limited, CEO of K7 Computing K Purushothaman, will share their knowledge and experiences in the presence of the RS Munirathinam and Dr P Selvaraj, President and Secretary of Consortium of Self-Financing Professional, Arts and Science Colleges, at the seminar
