Register, get hygiene certificate, Food Safety Dept tells hoteliers
Food safety department has directed the hotel owners to register their facilities in the official website and avail hygiene certificate from the department.

As a part of the food safety week, the food safety department had conducted an awareness meeting with hotel owners to emphasize selling of hygienic and healthy food to the customers, on Tuesday. “Hygiene certificate is mandated, and the hotels should erect health awareness banners at their facilities,” A Ramakrishnan, designated official of the food safety department, Chennai district said.
He added that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has created a portal named ‘servesafe’ to provide quality of food served in hotels.
“Hotels owners should register in the portal. Food safety officials would visit the hotels to check the quality of the food served and provide rating points based on the hygienic condition. Consumers can check the ratings in the portal and make a decision before consuming food,” Ramakrishnan said.
According to Ramakrishnan, food could be consumed at hotels that acquire 3.5 to 5 rating points. He also requested the hotel owners to call 90877 90877 so that NGOs could take leftover food and distribute to poor people.
