The deceased was identified as Vishwanathan from Selaiyur and who was suspected to be a habitual drug abuser.

On Monday night, Vishwanathan consumed alcohol and went to a tattoo shop on Tambaram-Velachery road and asked a staffer named Sridhar to ink him.

When Sridhar refused to do it as Vishwanathan already had to give some money. He also asked Vishwanathan to come back later when he is not intoxicated. Angered by this, Vishwanathan began to break things in the shop. Meanwhile, Sridhar informed the owner, Madan, and he rushed to the shop with friends and started to beat up Sridhar.

Later on the same night, when Vishwanathan went to file a complaint at the Selaiyur police station, they asked him to go to a hospital and refused to accept the complaint as they knew his condition. Vishwanathan was seen dejected after this and was telling his friends that the police insulted him. Following that, on Tuesday morning Vishwanathan hanged himself at his residence in Selaiyur.

On Wednesday, the Selaiyur police registered a case and arrested Madhan, Sridhar and Madhan’s friends Shaym Sundar, Lokesh, Dinesh Kumar and Venkatesh. The police said all of the accused are aged between 25 and 30 and they were remanded to judicial custody.
