69 homeless persons rescued in 5 hours
Greater Chennai Corporation has rescued 69 homeless persons on Tuesday night.

According to a statement, NGOs running the night shelters conducted the rescue drive from 7 pm to midnight in Mylapore and Koyambedu bus stand. “During the drive, 60 male and 5 female homeless persons were rescued. One girl child and 3 mentally challenged persons were also rescued,” it said.
The civic body had commenced conducting rescue drives every fortnight from December 5. From December to June 7, it has rescued 356 homeless persons and lodged them at the night shelters run by the Chennai Corporation.
Presently, the civic body maintains 38 shelters for homeless persons apart from 13 special shelters at government hospitals.
