A police team conducting a vehicle check caught the men and the contraband after a brief chase when the truck carrying it tried to speed away without stopping at Red Hills - Vadakarai junction.
A truck and a car rushed past the police team when they tried to stop the vehicle for checking. The police team chased and blocked the vehicles two km away. The men from the truck and the car were identified as truck driver Edwin (35) from Tiruchy, Easwaran (45) from Old Washermenpet and truck owner Balasubramaniam (54) from Tondiarpet.
“Balasubramaiam and Easwaran picked up an argument with the police personnel to try and stop them from inspecting the truck. When the police checked, there was around one tonne of red sanders wood inside the truck,” said a police officer. The police have registered a case and handed them over along with the vehicles to the Tiruvallur forest officers for further interrogation, police said.
