A few months ago, four graduates approached Nazir Mohammed (43) of Kundrathur as they came to know through friends that he sends people abroad for jobs. Nazir Mohammed allegedly received Rs 6 lakh from them and introduced them to another person in Bengaluru.
In April, the youngsters were sent to Canada. But only after reaching there, they realised that they were sent on tourist visas. They returned to the country and demanded the money back from Nazir.
Nazir, who promised to return the sum, suddenly went missing for a few days.
The four men searched for him and found Nazir in Kundrathur on Monday. They kidnapped him on a two-wheeler and took him to a room in Valasaravakkam where they demanded the money from him.
Nazir’s advocate, who spoke to them over phone, found their location and informed the Kundrathur police about the incident. A team of police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued Nazir.
The four youngsters – S Gokula Kannan (27) of Karambakkam, H Pradeep Kumar (25) of Gingee, M Raja Hussain (27) of Porur and S Mohammed Yunus (38) of Kanathur – were detained for inquiry. Investigation revealed that Nazir Mohammed cheated them of Rs 6 lakh. So, he was also arrested, said the police.
The police said that Nazir Mohammed has cheated about 20 men of Rs 20 lakh in a similar manner and added that more victims have lodged complaint against him. The youngsters were also arrested on kidnap charges. All five were remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
