Rider falls into 5-foot pit dug by Tangedco, dies

A 45-year-old man, along with his two-wheeler, fell into a five-foot deep pit dug by Tangedco to lay underground cables on Kathivakkam High Road near Ennore on Wednesday evening.

 While he was rushed to the hospital, he died without responding to the treatment on Thursday, said the police.

The victim was identified as Aghoramoorthy of Kasi Visalatchipuram in Ernavur. He was travelling on his bike to meet his friend when the accident took place. He did not notice the pit on the road and fell into it, along with his bike, said the police officers.


He sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Stanley Medical College Hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries on Thursday. The Madhavaram traffic investigation police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.


The police said that Tangedco had been laying underground cables from North Chennai Thermal Power Station to Ernavur and work is under way on several roads.
