She reportedly saw a ball floating in the bucket full of water kept outside the house. While trying to pick it up, she fell inside head first. Though Ambika rushed her to a hospital, the doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The hospital authorities informed Mylapore police station before sending the child’s body to Government Royapettah Hospital for autopsy.
Police said that child’s father Vimal was working as a gardener at a house of a DMK MP while Ambika is a homemaker. During questioning, Ambika said she thought that the child was playing with her elder daughter.
However, Thanushka had gone to the neighbour’s house. Mylapore police have registered a case under the CrPC Section 174 (unnatural death).
