The deceased, Prakash from Ranga Nagar in Chromepet, was running a lathe workshop. The police said that Prakash, who used to consume alcohol every day, was in a relationship with Ramya (22).

Ramya’s parents who came to know about their relationship said that they would give their daughter’s hand in marriage only if Prakash quits drinking. Following that, Prakash stopped drinking alcohol four months ago and they got married.

On Thursday morning, Prakash asked Ramya attended a function at her parents’ house and he asked her to stay the night there before coming back home alone. While returning, he brought beer and consumed it.

Prakash’s father Parandhaman (57) scolded him and said that he would inform Ramya. Dejected over this, Prakash hanged himself from the ceiling of his room.

When he did not open the door on Friday morning, the door was broken with the help of neighbours and they found him hanging. The Shankar Nagar police arrived and sent the body for post-mortem examination to Chromepet Government Hospital. A case has been registered.
