The advocate, identified as Harikrishnan of West KK Nagar was stopped in Saidapet on Friday for not wearing helmet. However, instead of paying the fine for violating the helmet rule – which the city police started enforcing in full rigour after being pulled up by the Madras High Court several times – the lawyer began arguing with the police.
He picked up a quarrel, stating that he was on his way for an urgent work. But the personnel issued a challan at his doorstep – Rs 100 for helmet rule violation and Rs 500 as disobedience.
Saidapet traffic enforcement inspector Shyam Sundar said that Harikrishnan paid the fine at the nearby post office on Saturday and the acknowledgement receipt has been sent to senior officers. “If he had not argued with police, he would have been required to pay just Rs 100,” said the inspector.
