Man beaten to death with liquor bottles, five nabbed

An autorickshaw driver was beaten to death with liquor bottles in a Tasmac bar at Ambattur on Saturday night and the police have secured five suspects for interrogation.

The victim identified as Haridoss was a resident of Tiruvalluvar Nagar in Ambattur. He was attached to auto stand near the Ambattur railway station, said the police. After work on Saturday night, he went to a Tasmac bar in the locality with his friends. Suddenly, a gang of five men entered the premises and started beating Haridoss. 


While Haridoss and his friends tried to retaliate, the gang allegedly attacked Haridoss with liquor bottles and other weapons. While his friends escaped from the spot in fear, the gang murdered him andfled the scene.


On receipt of information, the Ambattur police retrieved his body and sent it to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. The police have retrieved theCCTV footage from the locality and nabbed five persons in an overnight search operation.


Haridoss, who is survived by his wife Praveena and two children, is an accused in a murder case in 2007. The police suspect that he could have been murdered over previousenmity and are inquiring the suspects for further details.
