The victim, Avinshu Patel, came to the city only three months ago and worked in a salon in the city, said the police. On July 2, he had posted on his Facebook page that he was depressed over being homosexual. “Everyone knows I’m a boy, but the way I walk, think and talk, it’s like a girl and people in India do not like this. Please help my family and do not blame them as we belong to a poor family. I love my mom, dad and sister and thank themfor supporting me,” the victim posted on his Facebook page.
He had also had written another post for the society saying that being born a homosexual was not his mistake. While he had informed his decision to end his life to a friend over phone, the latter was helpless as he was not able to reach Avinshu since then.
On July 3, morning walkers found his body washed ashore on Neelankarai beach and informed the police. The police shifted his body to the Royapettah Government Hospital and informed his parents. While his father reached the city to receive his body, he chose not to file a complaint, a police officer, who investigated the case, said.
